Convertible Car Seats

QUESTION:

Can I still use the seat with the broken foam while I wait to receive my replacement foam?

ANSWER:

Yes. The seat is still structurally safe to use as long as the foam is positioned in the same place in which it was intended. Sometimes taping the foam in place is suggested in order to prevent it from moving. Taping the foam does not compromise the safety of the car seat.

QUESTION:

Can I use an inflatable seat belt to install my Britax car seat?

QUESTION:

How do I adjust the harness on convertible car seats?

ANSWER:

Please visit this page for instructions on how to adjust your harness.

QUESTION:

How does my child benefit from a seat lined with Energy-Absorbing Foam?

ANSWER:

Injuries may occur when crash forces make contact with your child. Energy-absorbing foam is used to absorb some of those crash forces, keeping your child from absorbing them and therefore minimising injury.

QUESTION:

How does the Energy-Absorbing Foam work?

ANSWER:

The energy-absorbing foam deforms during a crash when your child makes contact with it. At the point of contact, the foam crushes; the energy required to crush the foam is absorbed by the foam instead of your child.

QUESTION:

Is there any safety difference between the Platinum SICT and the Meridian SICT?

ANSWER:

The Platinum seat has the addition of the SICT in the torso area.

QUESTION:

Is Platinum the safest Safe-n-Sound convertible car seat?

ANSWER:

The Platinum is Britax Safe-n-Sound's top of the range seat and does offer the most safety features across our entire range.

QUESTION:

When is it appropriate to remove the reversible insert?

ANSWER:

Inserts should be removed when you turn your baby to a forward-facing restraint.  Use the Infant Safety Cushion™ when rearward facing for smaller babies until their shoulders reach the lower shoulder height marker. Remove the cushion to create more room. Remain rearward facing until the child reaches the lower shoulder height marker again.

The Flexi Infant Safety Cushion™ (exclusive to the Platinum) with wings removed may be used for rearward facing or forward facing installation until the middle shoulder height marker is reached.

QUESTION:

What is the correct position of the AHR Headrest?

ANSWER:

The shoulder straps must be positioned in alignment with your child's shoulders, but not lower than the child's shoulders.

QUESTION:

My car seat is 10 years old. What should I do with it now?

ANSWER:

We recommend that restraints over 10 years old be discarded. Britax currently does not offer a recycling program at its headquarters, but you may want to contact your local recycling facility to see if the seat can be recycled.

When you discard a car seat, be sure to cut off all of the webbing, cut the cover, remove or blackout the serial number and manufacture date, and write “trash, do not use” on the car seat shell.

QUESTION:

Can you purchase an insert for a convertible car seat?

ANSWER:

We don’t sell separate parts of the trim but you are able to purchase the complete cover set from your local baby store.

QUESTION:

What is a convertible car seat?

ANSWER:

A convertible car seat is a child seat that "converts" from rear facing for infants and small toddlers to forward facing for children.  Britax convertible car seats can accommodate children up to approx. 4 years of age.

QUESTION:

Why does my baby have to travel rearward facing?

ANSWER:

In a frontal accident it is safer to spread the forces of an accident across a fully supported back than to be suspended in a harness. Additionally a baby’s head is largely unsupported and vulnerable to being thrown violently forward if in a forward facing restraint.

QUESTION:

What should I do if my Energy-Absorbing Foam breaks on my car seat?

ANSWER:

If you have questions or concerns and would like to speak with a Britax representative directly, please contact our  Consumer Service department. They will be able to assist with your questions.

QUESTION:

Is an Infant Carrier better than a Convertible Seat?

ANSWER:

Convertible Car Seats and Infant Carriers are tested to comply with the Australian Standard. The major advantage of an Infant Carrier is that the baby can be moved into and out of the car without being disturbed - enabling you to be out and about. Your purchase decision should be based on suitability for child together with size (fitment in smaller car), features (seat saver, canopy, support inserts, harness pads), materials (feel of fabrics), and ease of fitting. Both will protect your child in an accident.

QUESTION:

When installed rear-facing, the car seat touches the back of the front vehicle seat. Is this ok?

ANSWER:

After your car seat is securely installed rear-facing, you may move the front vehicle seat back JUST until contact is made with the car seat.

QUESTION:

Why does the foam sometimes break when the seat has not been involved in an accident?

ANSWER:

In the life span of a car seat, it is possible that components may be affected by wear and tear or breaking. Britax has replaceable parts available to our consumers to ensure their product functions in the safest manner for the life of the seat.
